My students need the Samsumg Galaxy Tablet to be able to take self-portraits of all 500 of themselves using the front facing camera.

How can every child's voice be heard? All 494 students from K through 5th Grade will be asked to express and capture elements of their identity through a self portrait created using the photo booth application on the requested tablet.
We are a public elementary school with 494 students.
The families speak over 9 different languages and most of the kids are second generation immigrants. We strive to give our students an artistic view of the world they come from as well as the world we live in with music, art, drama and dance programs.
The life size portraits will be created by our young artists using the PHOTO BOOTH application on the Samsung Tablet. All 494 portraits will be installed in a final student exhibition this May. The portraits will be created in a workshop in collaboration with Teaching Artist Kate Fauvell allowing the students to participate in her citywide public art project 1.1. 1.1 is a public art project where after conducting workshops at each of the over 1700 NYC public schools and meeting each and every young person Kate is creating 1.1 million life size paintings from the photos taken by the students. The in-school workshop explores identity. With the artist, the students will do a brief writing survey answering questions about themselves, receive an introduction to photography and then take portraits of themselves using photography to show to the world who they are.
Photography is a universal form of communicating.
The students will learn Visual Thinking Strategies and will be able to understand and communicate a visual representation of themselves. They will get to work with an artist and participate in the city wide public art project 1.1, which will bring attention to public school children across the city and generate dialog between students, teachers, parents, administrators, artists and the public at large.
