My students need hands-on materials to promote interactive learning and motivating opportunities for academic skill practice to help them reach their academic goals.
All students learn best when they can be "hands-on" with their learning. In my classroom, hands-on learning is especially important. Hands-on learning allows my students to be active participants in their academic growth, and gives them motivation to work towards their academic goals.
I teach six amazing 1st-3rd grade boys who love cars, Legos, Spongebob, computer games, and playing outside.
All of my students are diagnosed with autism.
We have a very active classroom within typical ECE-5th grade elementary school. At any moment you may walk into six (or more) different things happening at once. Students follow their personalized schedules to move between centers, working towards their individualized learning goals. Other adults frequently come in and out. Besides me (the teacher) there are three paraprofessionals and three related services support adults who work in the room.
My students respond best to interactive learning. It is my goal to promote a "learn by doing" environment, since that is how my students learn best. As with most students, hands-on learning is the best learning in our classroom.
My Project
Because of my students' need for concrete learning, the best teaching I can do is that which promotes hands-on learning. To understand a concept, my students need to see, touch, move, and manipulate objects however they can. The more my students can see, touch, and "do" the better they learn. Supplies like finger paint, glitter, and alphabet and number stamps will allow students to really "feel" what they are learning as they work on skills like writing their names, spelling/reading sight words, or solving math problems in a new medium. A map of the United States will allow them to see and touch where they live, and start to develop a concept of their country. Glue, yarn, paint, glitter, and marker stamps will allow them to create projects that promote practice in whatever academic skill they are learning. All of the resources I am requesting will better allow my students to be as hands-on,involved, and motivated in their learning and practice as possible.
All students learn best with hands-on and interactive learning methods.
This is especially true for my students, who respond best to concrete examples and physical involvement. My students all have individual education goals which we work towards all year. These hands-on materials will promote the intensive academic intervention that goes on in this room. It will help students meet their goals. Most importantly, it will give students a way to be actively involved and motivated in their learning
