Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Writing opens up a whole new world! My students are so excited about all of the new learning they are doing in kindergarten and this includes learning to write words and, eventually sentences and short stories!

Our school is a Title 1 school which basically means that over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch meals.

Many of my students come from single-family homes as well. They are a great bunch of students who are so inquisitive and eager to learn new concepts.

My Project

Being able to write on their very own board not only engages the entire class, it allows them all to have hands-on practice printing letters and words. This, in turn, allows them to feel more self-confident about their writing skills. Also, by giving each child his/her own board, I will be able to do more during a lesson which means more learning for my students. The tabletop easel would allow me to model writing skills during small group instruction. I would be able to print on the tabletop board and have the students copy it onto their own individual boards.

Dry erase boards are so expensive that I would never be able to purchase a class set at one time.

Being able to hand every one of the 24 students in my class their own board to use during a lesson would just be so amazing! Having a tabletop board would allow me to work with small groups of students who may still be struggling with their writing skills. I would be able to model the writing in a more intimate setting.
