My Students

The students don't have a good representation of rock and mineral samples from Utah. Research on line to look up properties of these samples will be helpful when identifying the rocks. The students don't have much space to hang up current science posters they can see and refer to.

The students in my class are eager to learn, but have many needs.

Their needs range from, small emotional boosts, to major psychological help. The socioeconomic is borderline Title I, so there is great need throughout the school. They are lively children who are happy to try their best, but many struggle academically and emotionally.

My Project

My students need 17 samples, a good representation of rock samples found in Utah plus a Netbook to help us doing research when doing lab work . The easel will be useful for hanging posters. By having the representative rocks and minerals that they are studying is important so the students have concrete access to investigate the different kinds of rocks and minerals. By being able to compare and examine the rock samples and look for additional information, the students' chances of retaining what they learn is increased.

My students love to do hands-on activities and it inspires them to find out more information about the subject by doing research or reading on their own.

They love to present their information to the class and to even share it with their families at home. These rock samples and access to a portable computer will give them good materials to investigate the rocks and minerals they are learning about, thus inspiring them to love learning in the future.
