Reading To Success

My students need books to help them relate to the history of the U.S. and science. They love to learn new things and love to read books to help them understand!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine trying to learn without any background knowledge on the subject you are focused on. My students have not yet been able to discover in person the wonders of this country. The experience of books is how we plan to visit these places and wonders.

My students are smart, energetic sponges asking for more information.

Our Elementary School is a wonderful public school in the tough area of L.A., California. The class is very diverse with mostly below basic learning abilities. Even with their deficits they are very interested in learning and are always looking for more things to experience. They learn best through hands on activities and references.

My Project

I have requested a group of books that directly relate to the standards we are learning in social studies and science. We will be using these books to make research projects, colorful brochures, science projects and picture resources so that they can connect to the subjects. My students will be able to read about real stories of history, see pictures of the United States and learn about science first hand. My students will not only get to read but also see what the subjects are and try to recreate the standards, such as dressing like a cowboy or creating a new science experiment.

My students have yet to be able to experience real life.

We may not be able to travel to places but I want them to be able to see history and experience science in more than just the classroom curriculum. Many students have no access to a public library and I want to open their eyes to all that is out there. They often feel that our area is thrown away and forgotten as somewhere where nothing good comes and I want to show them how much people care.
