An Afternoon in June with a Bassoon

My students need a bassoon in order to create a bridge between the woodwind and brass instruments ,and to correctly perform the level of repertoire we are playing.

My Students

Have you ever been cooking and not had a base ingredient? Most of the time you have to either go out and buy this missing ingredient or you have to make another product. In our case, our band is missing the low tones to complete our musical sound and there is no bassoon in the whole district to use.

These students work very hard for their craft.

Over the past few months they have already grown musically and we are moving on to more challenging pieces of music. There is no bassoon in our entire district music program so students are not even exposed to this amazing instrument. As the group excels in musical strength, students are auditioning for county and region level ensembles. I would like to give these students who are achieving high levels of success the ability to learn a unique instrument that they may succeed in at a higher level.

My Project

Band members have never even seen a bassoon. Along with adding to the musical texture of our ensemble, this instrument will be used to widen their musical exposure and understand some of the other instruments in the world. We will be able to perform woodwind ensembles, recruit younger students on this instrument, encourage current students to learn and audition on the bassoon, and fill out the musical tapestry in our ensemble.

As a music educator, I always strive to expose my students to a complete model of music.

Without basic instruments, they are limited in their knowledge and I don't feel as if I am doing justice in their musical education. As the title states, it would be amazing to have bassoons performing in our Spring concert in June. Please help this group reach the high levels it is able to do and give the students a well-rounded musical education.
