My Students

How would you like to live in a world where life happens and you feel like you are always on the outside looking in? Teachers or adults are always telling you that you are doing something wrong and you just don't know what that is...This happens often in the lives of my students.

My school is a K-8 school.

This one of the things that makes us unique! We are a small town and school in a rural community. Our students come from all walks of life. Another thing that makes us unique is we have Hispanic students as well as Amish. It makes for some interesting conversations as we learn about each other.

My Project

Making a positive difference That is what is important! These materials would contribute to helping me, a first year teacher, make a positive difference in my student's lives. I would love to have more resources available to continue to make a positive difference in my student's lives. In order to reach some of my students, I need some exciting, fun materials off of which to base social skills and behavior lessons. Using the Julia Cook books, I can reinforce to my students in a fun way those social skills or behaviors that need to learn. She writes exceptional books! The guidance counselor will also use them in guidance lessons. Mind Up! sounds like just what we need for our social skills groups! These students need guidance in getting along with others. Books, games and software are different ways to reach my students. They need a variety of methods to learn certain skills. We can also re-visit the needed skills using different materials.

By helping my students learn to make better choices in their daily behavior and by helping them learn how to behave in social situations, they can become productive members of our community.

Many of my students crave friendships but just don't know how to interact with others. These materials will enable me to be a better teacher. Making a positive difference in a student's life!
