This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning to converse in a second language can be difficult. Becoming literate in a second language can be an extreme challenge.

My students are 9th - 11th graders attending a new arts high school in California.

They are native Spanish speakers and are passionate young adults. They wish to become literate in their native language as they study in my Spanish 2 course. Becoming literate means they need to be reading and writing in Spanish and working on comprehension. However, we need interesting literature in order to engage these active thinkers.

My Project

I've asked for a class set of the book, Chevalier Auguste Dupin y la carta robada, as well as a few copies of the book, Panico en la discoteca. These are books that will be engaging for my group of students. In addition, if funded, each student will have their own book to use as we read the book in class and as they study on their own. This is an invaluable resource for my Spanish 2 students on their journey to literacy.

I wish for my students to not only see the beauty of the Spanish written language, but I want them to be empowered to use their own native language in an academic way. In this way, we are educating literate global citizens who will be in a position to change their community.
