Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you recall moving to a new school in a new country, and not being able to speak to anyone? Can you imagine how a young child would feel, let alone an adult? My students are immigrants and most often very poor. Art is a fun and easy way to communicate visually and a stepping stone to learning.
My school district is Title One and only 6.8 square miles in the middle of a large city.
It has educated very needy children of immigrants for over 132 years. Many are second language learners and very enthusiastic artists at the same time. To them, art is a fun and popular way to communicate. In art class, they develop their artistic skills, as well as learn about art elements, art history, and art studio. Art integrates every subject they have in school and makes their learning more memorable and meaningful. Oftentimes they will take their art projects home and teach the other members of their family what they have learned. For this reason, I hope you will choose to be our art donor!
My Project
I am requesting 55 stretched canvases for my middle school art students. They will sketch their paintings first in their sketchbooks and then learn how to transfer their drawings to the canvas using tracing paper. The students will paint using acrylics-which is a fast drying medium. The students will be able to display their paintings and then take them home to share with their families. This is going to be a fun project!
My art students really enjoying coming to art.
It is the only time in school where they can express themselves. They are all very artistic and creative. Art is the one subject where my students can be themselves and free their spirit! They love creating and really enjoy painting on canvas!
