My Students

You step into the art room and upon seeing the 25 year old TV ready to be fired up for an art appreciation experience, you place your head down; the screen is too small and the single speaker sound too crackly to encourage active engagement.

My students are like any other.

What they do face are challenges of poverty and a school district on the verge of losing accreditation. The problems are systemic and well studied; successes can best be achieved one student and one class at a time. Value in education is all too common an abstract concept, and that attitude can only be erased by genuine care, rigor, and laughter.

My Project

Art history/appreciation is a tough sell these days,and videos shown on a vintage television set, soon lulls my students into La La Land. The screen size is minimal, and so the students at the fringes see little and hear almost nothing of what is being communicated. What was once stereo is now a faint and scratchy mono. The video library that I have collected is current, but what is perched on the rusty media cart is ancient. A flat screen TV is sure to help engage creativity, questioning and dialog. My students create visually every day, and when they view historical art or current artists on the room's TV, they deserve to experience it as it was meant to to be viewed...please pass the popcorn.

High quality flat screen TVs are ubiquitous today, and now the standard in our fair land.
