Digital Storytelling: Through the Eyes of Children

My students need an iPod Touch to use in our digital story telling lessons. They will use the iPod to take pictures and create one of a kind digital books.

My Students

My students face challenges on a daily basis. A great deal of students struggle to read and this affects their self esteem as well as their ability to perform in other areas academically. The majority of my students do not have the access to technology and the inspiration to achieve great results.

I have two groups of students that I teach on a daily basis.

They are respectful children that are willing to learn and follow my direction. Unfortunately, not all of my students have access to everyday technology. I provide a classroom that is safe and secure when other places aren't. The town that my students live in is a small rural community with little industry and few job opportunities. Our school only houses third and fourth grade students and we must prepare them to take our state's high stakes test at the end of fourth grade.

My Project

This resource will allow my students to participate in a literature experience that will inspire others and build their own self confidence. I would utilize the iPod Touch to allow students to capture still images of their surroundings and original art work. The students would use the free application called Storykit to create digital books. Students can add pictures, text, and even record narration in their own digital book. Each student will be able to reinforce reading skills such as identifying story elements and character traits while writing their book. These books can then be uploaded to the Storykit server and shared through email with family.
