My Students

Get inspired! That is what I tell my students every day. I tell them that they are going to change the world... and they will! Lets do our part and give them every opportunity to get engaged and fascinated with science. See what we are doing at www.sdoucette.com.

Pacifica High School is in a blue collar community.

The students come from middle to low-income households. There is a strong school spirit among the students but the recession is taking its toll as incomes are reduced and funding for anything but basic supplies has vanished. The students remain positive and energetic but it breaks my heart when I think of what they should be receiving in terms of an education.

My Project

In the past my students have participated with staff at Bolsa Chica Wetlands to grow and plant native California species as part of a restoration project. In addition, we do extensive water quality testing as part of our field trip. This year we have no funds to purchase testing supplies and without this component, students lose a unique opportunity to learn quantitative skills and also contribute to the work being done by the staff at the Wetlands.

We need students to engage in the exploration of their environment and the world of science.

There is no substitution for field work and yet this critical element is the first to be cut. I need your help to provide opportunities for these students to experience science in the field. You can see some of our projects at my website www.sdoucette.com.
