We Have a Date With A Dinosaur Named SUE....in Chicago!

My students need a field trip to experience the wonder and excitement of visiting two landmarks in Chicago, the Art Institute and the Field Museum.

My Students

The wonder of Sue, the amazing paintings in the Art Institute set in one of the most famous cities in America-Chicago, this field trip would be a wonderful way for the seniors in my classes to experience history and culture while making an incredible memory to end their senior year.

I teach in an inner city school with a free and reduce lunch rate of 84 percent, most of the seniors in my school will struggle to pay for their cap and gowns, few kids have senior rings, there isn't a yearbook, and they aren't planning trips to Disney World or Aruba as a rule.

They are working at McDonald's or Steak and Shake and dreaming about college and their lives after graduation. I have been lucky enough to have some of them in class two to three years and I would love to show the city and the history we have talked about in class.

My Project

This one day trip would be a wonderful day for some of the seniors who have volunteered or shown academic excellence and character. We would get up early in the morning, catch the 4:30 train and be in Chicago at 10:00 am. We would head to the Field Museum and explore the history there and see SUE the dinosaur I showed them in the world history review. We would climb the steps of an Egyptian kings tomb, visit Africa and the nomadic people. Everything I teach is in this museum and seeing it is to remember it! We would then head out to a modest lunch at McDonald's and then race to the Chicago Art Institute to wander the galleries. We will sit on the famous steps with the lions! I will point out colleges and cooking schools. Thanks to the Chicago Go cards we can go to the Shedd Aquarium and have a snack and pick out something small to remember the day by in their gift shop. We will then take the L to Chinatown and have dinner before getting back on the train after having a most amazing day

Your donation would make a wonderful field trip come alive for some excited and delighted high school seniors who have beat the odds, meeting and exceeding the graduation requirements for graduation in a city that has a 52 percent drop out rate.

This trip would expose the students to museums and culture that they don't see in the urban setting they live in. You would give them a day they would remember forever.
