This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Here's an experiment for you. Move to China without being able to speak a word of Chinese. Next, in three years, attempt to get into a prestigious Chinese university. This is the challenge that my students are facing, and overcoming, everyday here in the United States.

My students are almost completely foreign-born.

They attend the high school with the largest population of foreign born students in the state. My class in particular has students who will attend top twenty college, and are taking the Advanced Placement U.S. History course in order to gain college credit and to get a taste of higher education.

My Project

I am requesting flash cards that will be used as study aids. By using the flash cards, my students will have extra help in memorizing the terms, people, and places that constantly show up on the AP Exam. The students will engage in a variety of games and exercises in order to better hone their knowledge of American history.

For many of my students mastering English itself is a large enough challenge.

On top of that, they have to memorize such terms as "Headwright system" and "Iroquois Confederacy." Using flash cards as a tool for memorization will surely help my students excel in class, and also stimulate their cognitive functioning and mastery of the English language.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
