My Students

Reading a book in today's society has become almost passe. Children want to read using some form of technology. An e-reader is ideal to create excitement during reading.

I am a Title I reading teacher in New York City.

I teach struggling readers in the second and third grades. My students are wonderful but truly do not understand the importance of reading. I am constantly striving to look for ways to motivate and encourage reading.

My Project

This is where the Barnes and Noble simple touch e-reader becomes essential. My students will read anything if they perceive it as "fun". The e-reader is actually fun to use. I can allow children to borrow the reader over night in order to promote reading. The reader will teach vocabulary, and curiosity to my students.

Sometimes I think curiosity is the missing ingredient in education.

If you can't make the child curious, they will never become independent learners. Thank you for your consideration.
