It is my hope to obtain a Reading Train Rug for my first grade classroom. This product is colorful and will provide me with an exciting way to teach and review letter/sound isolation and identification. Our school places emphasis on targeting struggling readers. To better their reading we provide them with individual to small group intervention to meet their differentiated needs. This rug would allow me to provide a fun way to teach and practice letter/sound isolation and recognition. My students come from a low socio-economic background and rarely have new things. Additionally, many of their families are still in the process of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. Much of their possessions are hand-me-downs and we rarely see them with more than the necessities. I know that they would take pride in having this rug as a part of their classroom. In the first grade classroom, we are always on the floor. This would allow us to have a colorful, comfortable place to meet in the classroom. I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read this request. I can assure you that this will enhance the excitement and enthusiasm for reading, especially my students who are struggling most.
