My Students

How do people in Bhutan live? Where is Bhutan? What language do people in Pakistan speak? I want our children to be accepting of other people no matter how they look or speak. "Be the change you want to see in the world," Mahatma Gandhi said. This is the change I want!

We are a small urban school with a wide range of incomes and a large Hispanic population.

About 54% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our PTA helps us with small grants as much as they can, but this is more than they can afford. I need better reading resources for my students.

My Project

People is a fabulous book! It shows all the ways people are different and on a 3rd grade reading level! The pictures of different ways of life are great. The most powerful part is the ending - the next to last page has a town where everything is made of the same boring colors. The next page shows a town full of vibrant color and says that is it wonderful that we are all different!

We desperately need to raise children that are accepting of others who are different from them.

When we understand the differences we aren't afraid of them. I want my students to celebrate the differences and make the world a better place!
