My Students

Have you ever worked hard on typing a letter or important report only to find that you had no way to print it? My students have this feeling often. Many of my students do not have access to a printer, or they must pay to print their documents in the school library.

I teach 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.

I teach a variety of students from struggling learners to gifted learners. Many of my students are enthusiastic about learning, but they sometimes become frustrated. Our school is a public high school in coastal Georgia. For many of my students, the laptop cart in our classroom or the school media center provides the only means to technology that they have. It is very frustrating for them to have worked hard on a writing assignment or other project, and then they have no way to print the document to turn it in. Our school media center has a printer, but students have to pay to print their documents. Many times they may not have the money to pay for printing. Having a classroom printer would solve the printing problem for the students.

My Project

Having a classroom printer would alleviate the problem of trying to find a way for my students to print their essays and projects. For example, my students worked on a writing assignment during class last week. Many of them were unable to print their work. They had to try to email the assignment to me. Some students have not turned the assignment in yet because they have been unable to get their essay printed. Having a classroom printer would provide so much convenience and ease of use for my students because we will have writing assignments throughout the school year. My students will even be entering an essay writing contest in February that will require them to type and print the essay that they enter in the contestant only will students be able to print word processing documents, but they will also be able to print desktop publishing projects such as brochures and newsletters.

In conclusion, having a printer in my classroom would be very beneficial for my students.

Some of their frustrations would be eased because they would have a convenient way to print documents and projects that they had completed. Being able to use the printer along with the classroom laptops will help make my students be more successful with their writing assignments.
