Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am always trying to make mathematics more relevant to my students and find ways to show them how math is used in the "real world." Articles about current events, pop culture, and sports that are tied to math is a fantastic way to show my students that math really is used outside the classroom.

All of the students at my public school are entitled to free and reduced priced lunches and the majority of my students live at the poverty level.

While most of my students have financial challenges, many of them do not let that get in their way of their academic success. Our students' enthusiasm for learning has helped our school's annual "Math Olympics" and competitive math team flourish over the last few years.

My Project

Scholastic Math magazines will show my students how math can be applied not only to science and technology, but also to sports, current events, pop culture, and more. Scholastic Math magazine is a monthly subscription that shows students how math can be used in their daily lives and even in future careers. Every issue features practice math problems related to the articles published and test prep questions to help students prepare for standardized testing.

The ability to use mathematics in real world situations is an important skill to have.

Scholastic Magazine will help make math more relevant to my students and show them how mathematics is applied in real life.
