it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Art 1 and Studio Drawing & Painting students are motivated and inspired when project criteria directly relates to their personal life.
90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. The demographic is 70% Latino and roughly 30% Black. Our classes of 35+ create individualized projects that display cross curricular connections, material exploration, and self expression.
My Project
The most successful way to learn to draw is by observation. Understanding form and figure comes with drawing practice and hands on interpretation. My students will capture all of these skills by constructing, manipulating and visually representing the subject. My students will build an insect, rodent or bug using wire and pliers. They will also reposition it and draw it in a variety of different positions.
The "Wire you Buggin" project is important because students will learn how to plan, build, and execute their preliminary work both in sculpture and mixed media.
Students will develop a personal style, artistic voice and favorite media choices. It is important for young artists to be able to experiment with a variety of materials. Using motor skills to create their composition will aid in the ability to include themselves within any given concept.
