Keeping Children Engaged

My Students

Technology is such a part of these students' worlds. These listening activities help supplement our phonics program and engage the students through both visual and auditory processes. The students use wipe off markers and follow the directions given which helps reinforce the phonics skills.

My school is mostly middle class and my class is quite a mixture of learners.

They come from all different ethnicities and backgrounds. I have a few students that barely know their letter sounds and some students that read chapter books easily. We are no longer given money for supplemental materials besides textbooks and what comes with those programs.

My Project

With this listening phonics program my students will hone their skills in phonics which include short vowels, long vowels, blends, digraphs and vowel patterns. I am already familiar with this program because we currently are using a word family one which is from the same company. The students really look forward to going to listening and are kept engaged for the entire center time which lasts up to 20 minutes. Last year I saw my students making connections while listening to the word family program which made me look into other programs by the same company.

This listening center program will really help auditory learners learn their phonics skills.

I have seen first hand how listening programs motivate and keep my 6/7 year olds engaged. Please help us increase our phonics library!
