My students need exciting and enriching guided reading books to read during independent reading time.

Remember back to the time you 1st opened a book to read. Think how the words caused your head to spin. Now, imagine being one of only a few students in a 2nd grade class unable to decode the words on page. My students have the drive to succeed & now only need the extra push of new books to help them
My students are second graders in an inner-city, low-income school.
They are spunky, full of energy and eager to learn every single day. Even though their home lives hinder their success at times, their positive spirits and optimism to learn overpower their backgrounds. They inspire me every single day by showing me the importance of staying positive and living every day to the fullest. It is amazing how children can change your outlook on life, but these students teach me more about life than anything else ever could.
How can you read without books? Of course students must first learn to read through learning reading and decoding skills, but how can students be immersed with good literature and literature skills without exciting books? By having guided reading sets in our room, the students will be able to share the love I have for reading with me by finding books that not only meet their reading needs, but also help them discover the joy for reading. Right now, we are only able to do guided reading with black and white printable books. While these do help with reading skills, the students do not find the excitement of reading that picture books can bring. My goal is to help uncover that joy in my students through the use of new, interesting, and inspiring guided reading books.
Every single day, my goal is to make a difference in not only the education of my students, but also in their lives.
