Urgent Call For Very Vital Vacuums

My students need 3 lightweight, kid-friendly floor sweepers to help keep their classroom clean! This project will help 1 class of 3rd graders (31 students).

My Students

Many mornings, kids come to class and find bits of paper, eraser-chunks, and junk on the classroom floor. It's not a nice way to start the day! We don't have a lot of time to pick tiny things up from the carpet by hand, and budget cuts have cut our custodian's hours! He just can't do it all himself!

I'm writing this project for my classroom of 31 students.

My students are amazing hard workers who want to excel in school, and each day they stay busy from morning to afternoon! Our school is very diverse and students are highly motivated and focused on learning.

My Project

Due to severe education budget cuts in our state (California), schools in our district have had to cut custodians' hours to next to nothing. We love our custodians and are sad to see this happening to them. One way I can help our hard-working custodians and keep my classrooms clean is to vacuum my classroom at the end of each day, to make sure the learning environment is spic and span when kids come in the next morning. At the moment, it's hard to describe what our classroom floor looks like at the end of our day! Let's just say, it's not pretty! Paper bits, eraser-tips, broken pieces of crayon, dirt and little rocks tracked in from the playground, and lots of goodness-knows-what! Please help me provide a clean working environment for my 31 students! I am requesting three portable, kid-friendly "sweepers," which the students and I can use quickly at the end of the day, or as needed when we notice a mess!

We ask so much of kids when they come to school.

They literally walk in, begin, and work straight for almost 6 hours every day. Currently, because classrooms are only vacuumed once a week (Monday), the floors are pretty disgusting by midweek. It can't be helpful or inspiring for students to see their classrooms in this pitiful condition. Providing classroom sweepers will enable me and my students to sweep up the flotsam of every day and create a clean classroom floor!
