This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Isn't it easier to understand something if it is given to you in a book with colorful pictures and words? Writing is fun, but learning the grammatical skills is not. Why not teach it through a fun book?

I teach English Language Arts to a group of second, third, and fourth grade students from a low socio-economic school.

They love to write, but are not so eager to learn the grammatical skills involved in publishing their writing. They do love listening to a good picture book. Getting this project funded would encourage their learning.

My Project

Getting this project funded would provide picture books for me to read aloud when introducing a writing or grammatical skill. Reading a book like "The Greedy Apostrophe," sure is a lot more interesting then listening to someone teach about apostrophe's. The words and pictures in a book can provide so much more than just words on a chalkboard.

Teaching students to write grammatically correct with imagination, colorful words, and correct punctuation is difficult when all you have is a worksheet, a teacher talking, or words on a wall.

Having these books to show the students pictures and examples of verbs, adjectives, and nouns would teach the students how to use words in context.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
