Listen to the lecture, copy down the notes, do problems 1-30 on page 294... zzz... That's how boring math can be, but it shouldn't, and doesn't have to be!

River's Edge Academy (REA) educates urban students to become environmentally responsible, socially conscious, and scholastically prepared for college and active community life.

We do this in partnership with parents and community by challenging them with rigorous academics, innovative projects and an inter-disciplinary curriculum. REA students connect their local and global communities through meaningful, productive learning experiences centered on the past and present ecology, commerce, people and cultures of the Mississippi River system.

My Project

Students at River's Edge Academy are taken out of the building weekly for fieldwork, service learning projects, and core class lessons. Students come to REA because it is not a traditional high school. They not only learn by reading and writing, but also by doing, seeing, and interacting. Circular functions in math class can be the world's most boring (and not to mention difficult) concepts to learn. By using orienteering compasses, students can use the bearings to study radians, azimuths, vectors, arc lengths, angles, circular function patterns, graphs of trigonometric ratios, and complete an interactive land survey project.

Your donations to support this project will help River's Edge Academy continue to provide its students with amazing educational opportunities.

Because our students have not typically been successful in large public schools or ALCs, they come to REA for the unique learning experiences we offer. With tools like orienteering compasses, learning traditional math concepts can be interactive, fun, and relevant. This is why students at REA are successful. Thank you for your help.
