My Students

In 1982 there was a article in my local community's newspaper citing my use of a "microcomputer." Ever since I was highlighted in the article, I have had an interest in technology. I seek to create that same self-fulfilling prophecy for students nearly 30 years after my initial use of computers.

In the shadows Chicago's United Center- the home of the Bulls and Blackhawks, I work with students that are also fighting to be champions.

With nearly all students eligible for free/reduced meals, we know the dire need to close the evident digital divide.

My Project

The students have been granted to use of iPad 2 through another funding source, but the total of ownership was not considered as a part of the donation. In an effort to maintain the generous donation, my students need iPad covers to protect this learning tool. The students will be contributing to the global community, maintaining multi-media notes, generating animations, videos, and text. We have a strong need to maintain the iPads. We have implemented anti-theft tracking systems and trained the students on safe use, but understand the fundamental daily need that will be fulfilled with the use of the iPad covers. Supporting our project will be supporting the learning of future learners as well.

It's difficult for many of us to understand that students today do not have the same access to information that we take for granted, but for many of the students that our school serves, their only Internet access is at the school of public library.

This reality makes having functioning equipment at the school even more essential. Thanks for supporting student learning and discovery!
