This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What really happens to all the garbage we create? Is solar or wind power better? Why should we care about the air quality? My students don't really care about these questions...yet. They have not had the chance to explore how it all relates to them.
My students live in urban Missouri.
They do not see nature on a daily basis. They see concrete and metal. Most have not experienced the joy of seeing a doe dart through the forest or watched the sun set over a mountaintop. They have not thought about how they live their lives will affect the earth for future generations. I would like to introduce them to these interesting and exciting topics.
My Project
By exploring what happens to the garbage we create and thinking critically about environmental issues, my students will gain knowledge that will empower them and their generation to make a difference. These materials will give students the opportunity to understand what is going on in the world and how they can be a part of it.
These issues are important.
They not only affect my students, but the entire world. By giving them the knowledge needed to think critically about the environment and how we live our lives, we are helping today's students make more informed decisions in the future.
