Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's the start of yet another school year, and this year they canceled Teachers' Choice, so we need supplies!
All of my students are Black and Hispanic 6th graders in an urban area.
My students are hard-working, motivated, and love school. However, since we are in the poorest Congressional district in the country, funds are limited and supplies are scarce in the school. Additionally, some families have a hard time affording all the supplies their children need for school.
My Project
I am requesting the following basic supplies for the start of the year: a staple gun, 3 packs of 12 dry erase markers, 24 packs of post it notes, 2 packs of 60 pens, 10 packs of 12 pencils, 144 pencil-top erasers, 5 reams of loose leaf paper, 3 packs of construction paper (300 sheets), a class pack of 256 markers, 30 glue sticks, 10 rolls of scotch tape, a dozen scissors on a stand, and staples. While I do expect students to supply their own pencils and pens, it does not hurt to have extra supplies around for extenuating circumstances. I do not expect students to bring their own art supplies, like construction paper, because I understand that families do not always have resources to purchase these things for their kids. Having supplies on hand for projects and activities makes my students feel like they are a valued part of a classroom community.
Your help is particularly important this year because the school system canceled Teachers' Choice, a program in which the city gives teachers some money for school supplies.
We are expected to purchase supplies from our pockets, which I have already done for some items, but your help is much appreciated to fill up our supply closets!
