Two years ago my school received healthy snacks for the students that consisted of strawberries, grapes, apples celery and carrots. At first the students were reluctant to eat the veggies but after a month they gladly welcomed the daily delivery of the celery and carrots. Unfortunately, the healthy snack program was discontinued after a year. Since healthy snacks are no longer provided, the children have regressed to their old eating habits. They come to school daily with cheese doodles, potato chips, cookies, cakes and drinks high in sugar. Their snacks lack the essential vitamins and nutrients needed to help them grow in to healthy children.
Many of my students are overweight because they are not eating the right foods.
They spend the dollar they receive from their parents on unhealthy snacks. After lunch, it is very difficult to keep some of my students focused on a lesson because they have eaten snacks that are full of sugar.
My Project
I want to teach my students how to make smoothies and juices that are healthy and delicious. The blender and juicer will allow me to provide a healthy alternative to the chips and sugary juices. It is my hope that the children will choose to buy fruits and vegetables instead of cookies and cakes. The sports equipment will allow them to play their favorite sports and even learn a new sport, tennis. The combination of healthy eating and exercise will them to stay focused and reduce their weight.
I want my students to fall in love with fruits and vegetables again.
I want them to be active and fit. Healthy children grow up to be healthy adults. So it’s important that they learn how to be healthy while they are still young.
