Do you remember what it was like when you were learning to read and you found a book that you could read all by yourself? My students are discovering the joy of reading and I want to inspire them to become lifelong readers by creating a comfortable reading center where they can choose books to read.
I have 22 eager and ready to learn kindergarten students in a high poverty area.
Within those 22 students are varying reading levels. My students love reading our classroom books and this shelf would provide extra motivation, engagement, and excitement towards reading during our center time by allowing the student easier access to our classroom books.
My Project
Our classroom has tables, chairs, and materials. But what is most important, those children's books, are just not accessible by the children. I am in great need of this book shelf unit to not only display books of choice to the students, but to have a way for them to access them! This shelf unit sits on the floor and is their height. It will be perfect for them to be able to browse and select a book that is just right for them.
Reading is one of the most important skills I will teach these 5 year-old students how to do this year.
With your help, this endeavor will be so much more successful! By providing this shelf and display unit, you will be making reading easier and more fun for my students! Don't let my books go to waste!! Help me get them in the hands of these children...they are our future.
