Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a group of inspirational fourth graders.
My school has many low income families who are helping their children gain opportunities they never had. One of our school's core values is: "Children learn in different ways on different days." In order to accommodate my students I aim to educate my students using many different methods. To take them beyond their imaginations is my goal as their teacher. Having an organized reading and writing place is just the beginning.
My Project
In my classroom I use the readers and writers workshop program. This teaching model is wonderful because it allows me to split time between whole group instruction, small group and partner work and a heavy dose of individual attention for every student. Last year I saw my students make great strides and want to continue to that positive movement.
To enhance our readers and writers workshop time we need a portable easel. During readers and writers workshop the students gather on a carpet in the library so that we can be close enough to share our ideas. It is a great way to get the students out of their seats but unfortunately they aren't able to view our whiteboard. This easel will solve this problem. It will allow us to be guided through the writing process, see examples of good writing, practice our writing strategies, record our thoughts about great books, and explore stories.
This project is important to me because I have a responsibility to be a good teacher and to help my students become productive citizens.
