Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time a book spoke to you? The students at my school are getting a library for the first time and need books relevant to them as young adults.

My inner-city public high school is seventy-five percent low income.

Many students have public library cards, but have accrued fines they cannot afford to pay. For many, the school library is one of the few places they have access to books for leisure reading.

My Project

I am requesting a range of titles, from graphic novels and Magna, to young adult fiction, and primary sources for research projects. With your generous help, I will be able to help students find books that are the perfect fit. I hope to inspire the joy of a good read in them. By offering high interest books, I hope to engage students in becoming active, aware life-long learners.

Since this is the first year that my school will have a library, it is very important to have a wide range of books available to students.

I want them to know that the library is a place where they are welcome. What better way of welcoming them than by having high interest books on the shelves?

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
