My Students

Being in a middle school self-contained classroom is not easy for the kids. They need tools to help them communicate and navigate the world around them.

My students are from poor neighborhoods and are tough kids.

They have specific learning needs and have a lot of catching up to do so they can read, write and perform math in their every day lives. They are at extremely low reading levels. Some students have limited English proficiency, and some have behavior issues that I believe can be conquered with better communication skills, which this project will help to tackle.

My Project

With Boardmaker, students will be able to have their own personal communication books. They will learn vocabulary with assistance from pictures; they will learn from visuals that are otherwise not available to them. Boardmaker will benefit the students every day of their lives from now on. The art supplies will allow for a change throughout the day so that students can learn and practice creatively.

Starting up a classroom in a poverty stricken area of Boston is not easy.

There is no budget to buy classroom supplies, and every little bit helps the students to face life's challenges and make them better, smarter, more capable adults.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
