Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Literacy is liberating! That is the slogan for my class, and I want my students to know just how liberating literacy can be. My students need to begin independently reading books of their choice in order for them to love literacy, which is why they need a class library.
Most of my students reside in the west side of Chicago.
Many of them will be the first in their families to attend college after high school graduation. My students love learning and they want to succeed in school; for them, college is not a hope but an expectation.
My Project
The resources that I am asking for would help my students to love literacy and liberate themselves from the challenges in their lives. They would begin to see that literacy is a force that can give our lives meaning, instead of as an assignment that needs to be fulfilled. Furthermore, their reading skills would grow, and they would have greater success on door-opening tests, like the ACT.
Do you remember the first book that made you love reading?
I do. I want my students to gain a love of reading that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. This will make an impact on their lives because they will become critical thinkers and joyful about learning.
