Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many school children in Rhode Island will have the opportunity to go to their school library and check out books that have been nominated for the Children's Book Award this year. My students do not have a school library,so it is critical that the classroom library is equipped with nominated titles.

My students are enthusiastic learners who attend a public charter school in a city that has fallen on very hard times.

Their families want them to have a strong education, and the teachers at my school work hard to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to develop strong academic habits. Research shows that reading A LOT contributes to increased growth in vocabulary and concept development, which leads to the ability to access higher levels of reading achievement.

My Project

Having these books in our classroom library means that my students will be able to participate in a state wide program that many of their peers are able to enjoy. They will read and then be eligible to vote for their favorite book. They will learn that many children read for social as well as academic reasons, and they will benefit from developing strong reading habits of mind.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to be part of a statewide project that many students have access to without even thinking about it.

Your books will stay in our library long after the voting ends, so they can be enjoyed by students in subsequent years.
