Did you know that by the time our students reach fifth grade more than half of what they read is non-fiction? That means that primary students must be introduced to non-fiction books and how to read! Help my students achieve and learn to read non-fiction successfully through interesting texts!
My students are a diverse community of learners.
There are many students that are learning English for the first time. It is challenging to teach students how to read in a language they are just learning. My students crave engaging texts with real-life pictures and supporting texts. Many of them are struggling readers that need to motivated by feeling successfully when they read.
My Project
If you help donated to my project I can promised that students for years to come will benefit from these engaging non-fiction leveled readers. I will use these book in guided reading to help my students learn how to read non-fiction books. I will also use these books for my students to read during their independent reading time. My students will learn the importance of non-fiction texts in the classroom as well as interesting information that non-fiction books bring. They will also learn how choose books on their level and read independently. Book may be the only true magic! Please consider helping students for years to come!
Children have a right to access a wide variety of books and other reading material in the classroom.
Non-fiction books help build content literacy, build background knowledge, and vocabulary. More advanced skills are needed for students to learn content literacy such as reading between the lines, visualization, and interpretation of graphs. These advanced skills can be learned through guided reading and one-on-one instruction with non-fiction texts that are just right for the reader.
