This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like when you were in school and you could not wait for your science class? My students are very excited when we do hands on projects that they can investigate why something happens. They are quick to ask questions and to try something new to answer their questions.

We live in an urban community in a large city in Arizona.

More than 75% of our sixth grade students are eligible for free and reduced breakfast and lunch program. With the large cut to the district budget, money is not available to purchase supplies for hands on projects.

My Project

By constructing a simple energy car they will learn that kinetic energy is the energy of motion and potential energy is the energy in an object based on its position or condition. A simple energy car is the perfect balance of kinetic and potential energy to teach energy transfer to students. Even though this seems like a difficult concept to understand, my students will grasp it very easily and quickly with these cars. They will be able to see, create, build, and understand through hands-on exploration rather than pictures in a book, and videos. They will be able to observe potential and kinetic energy in action. They will know how a rubber band, the potential energy, is converted into kinetic energy and the car moves.

Your donations to my project will reach my current students along with my future students.

This is a lifelong learning experience that breaks down the difficult concept of energy transfer of potential and kinetic energy into an easy-to-understand activity. Living in the area that my students live in does not allow them to have all the tools needed to provide for the learning experiences necessary to prepare them for the future. Please help my student enjoy learning about science like we did.
