My students need hands on math learning materials, games, and learning centers to thoroughly comprehend the concepts taught to them during whole group and guided math instruction.
What seven year old wants to sit at their desk while going over a page in their math workbook daily? BORING! I have been racking my brain thinking of innovative ways to challenge and intrigue my students. With concept-based centers and manipulatives I can create the ultimate learning environment!
I am fortunate enough to teach second grade in a rural school in New York.
My students are loving, enthusiastic, and diverse. Many students at this level come in with low attention spans and TONS of energy! Working with these center-based activities will provide them with a meaningful and fun mathematical experience! Please assist me in creating the ultimate math environment for my students and others! :) By contributing to this project you are not only showcasing your love for education, but you are assisting hundreds of children in believing in themselves and excelling in the area of mathematics!
My Project
It is essential that I provide my students with instruction that will not only excite them, but stick with them as we move on through the school year. Teaching students at a variety of levels is necessary and difficult. With these new materials, such as markers, geometric foam shapes, number dice, and other manipulatives I will be able to set up a guided math program in my classroom that will meet the needs of all of my students. Not only will my students benefit from these materials, but hundreds of other students will as well, even those from different grade levels. After all, sharing is caring! The manipulatives purchased will provide students with their own tangible learning. This will assist in grasping concepts and building upon their knowledge by doing and not just watching. I am super excited to see my students' growth and excitement for math increase with these new materials!
