This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How many times a day do we rely on computers? I know that in this ever changing world, a good grasp on technology is a necessity. Unfortunately, although the demand is increasing, my students are lacking in the materials to meet it.

We are a NYC public school in a high needs area.

My students are middle schoolers with special needs and are preparing to make the plunge into general education high schools. Despite the challenges that my students face each day, they hold their heads up high and strive to be the best that they could possibly be. Unfortunately, our lack of technology in the classroom prevents them from reaching their ultimate potential. They simply cannot compete with schools that have higher funding for technology and because of this, they leave us with a large technological deficit. With children requiring technology to complete state mandated exit projects, another computer would be a miracle.

My Project

A laptop computer will really help my students learn. Our class is currently sharing an older desktop computer, but unfortunately only one or two students can benefit from it at one time. There are so many computer lessons and programs available to enhance learning, yet my students cannot access them! This new computer will allow children to work at their desks or at a table, thus enhancing their learning abilities. While one computer may not seem like a lot, it will be a major difference to my classroom and my students.

Words cannot describe how important having this laptop will be.

The benefits will be unbelievable and the results incredible. One piece of technology will touch many lives in many ways. This is a gift that will benefit many students over a lengthy period of time.
