My students need 2 eReaders for checkout in the media center. eReaders will provide instant access to books that students request and fulfill a format we do not have.
Do you enjoy reading books on your phone, Kindle, nook, or other e-reader device? Help us launch into the e-reading world by being a part of our e-reader program in the Barrow Library. Through multiple sources, we are seeking support in offering multiple e-readers for our students.
Our school serves over 450 students in grades PreK-5th grade.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic groups. We serve some of the most impoverished areas of our school district. Some of our students have access to a variety of technology outside of school, while others have none. The students of our school love to create and they love to use technology to do this. My hope is that in the coming years we will be able to offer students a variety of 21st century technology to support leisure reading, reading for information, and creation of new kinds of information.
My Project
My goal is to have e-readers available for use in book clubs and by individual students in the classroom. By starting an e-reader program in book clubs, we can show students how to use the devices responsibly and effectively. They can take advantage of tools such as digital bookmarks, notes, word look-up, text to speech, and more. As students become acclimated to how the devices work, they can assist other students in learning how to use the devices and the e-readers can be checked out by individual students for reading in the classroom. By offering e-readers we will be able to get books into the hands of students when they request them. With print books, it can take up to 2 months to get a book on the shelf. E-readers allow us to put books in students' hands in 60 seconds.
Donations to this project will support students in reading using 21st century devices.
This project will offer a format of book that our library currently does not have. Please consider supporting this effort to get e-readers into the hands of our Barrow students.
