My Students

This project was created to address a concern expressed by parents of previous students. Many of their first-grade children are experiencing difficulty in understanding and using money in school. For many of our children, cash, especially coins, is not something they see used on a daily basis.

My students are about to embark on a yearlong journey into banking and finance.

Instead of having a couple of small lessons periodically, we will integrate economics throughout the school year; even include it in our computer technology (keeping a bank account).

My Project

The materials for this project include coins, a money identification chart and a couple of counters. This project will provide real life money management skills such as managing and maintaining a bank account, how to use a debit card, as well as demonstrate careers in the industry such as a bankers, retailers, and tellers.

The primary intent of this project is to increase the student’s knowledge of how to count coins.

Making this a part of our daily routine increases the possibility that the children may have a better understanding of consequences of money management beyond PreK. As with any life-skill, you can never introduce money management too soon.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
