Mrs. Persaud from Brooklyn NY is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 4 sets of assorted activities with gears, levels, and pulleys.

With all the technology available, most student have no idea how the simplest things work. They have no experience with actually seeing how machines work or put together. This challenge is detrimental to these children's growth amongst emerging technologies.
My students need to learn how to actually build simple machines like pulleys, levers, wedges, wheels, gears, and inclined planes with a Simple Machine Kit, and K'Nex gears and levers.
Experimenting with machine parts for simple machines will help them to learn about more complex machines. This will give them a competitive advantage over their peers.
Simple machines will give my students experiences and knowledge. In the classroom, it is very important to have hands on training and learning, rather than just reading and lectures. Being able to build simple machines will give them a sense of accomplishment and show them first hand how certain things work.
Being an inner city child, working with simple machines hands-on will provide these students with a sense of accomplishment and will show them how things work in reality.
Instead of having these things explained, they can see how it works by creating it themselves.
