My students need a Magnetic Easel Tabletop board, Magnetic Math manipulatives, and a Gallon Measurement Set for hands-on instruction through small group math groups.
Do you remember what it was like to be frustrated in math class? My students need hands on opportunities in our math block that can be done through small group instruction.
My students are eager to learn more about math but need more hands-on opportunities that would be available through small-group instruction.
My class is a wide-variety group and each has their own unique styles of learning that they bring to class each day. We are a Title I school and many of my students come from poverty. My school is 90% free or reduced lunch and is located in SC. Over half of my students are not ready for our upcoming state test and do not have the resources at home to get the extra help needed. Several students go home to families that do not speak English and may not be able to receive the help needed. Another batch of my students go home to parents that just don't have the time to help due to jobs, families, etc.
Since our math abilities are stretched so far across the spectrum, I believe using small group instruction with hands on manipulative would help us out!
My Project
My students need small group instruction to help them become more successful students. I have seen the change in our class when using this for reading. Since our math scores are so low, I believe that using small group instruction for the last 15 minutes of math class would benefit all of my learners.
In addition, allowing the students to opportunity to work in small groups, they will be able to build upon their skills of collaboration. They will be able to explain mathematical concepts to one another in small group discussions led by the teacher. By listening and participating in their discussions, I will also gain a much better insight into their understandings and misconceptions with math.
This project is very important to our class as it will help us become successful students in math.
If I can give them that opportunity through small group instruction with this Magnetic Tabletop board, Magnetic Math Manipulative, and Gallon Measurement Set, then I think I can make a difference. The more chances the children get to manipulate with hands on experiences, theses knowledge seeking children will have more of a chance to be successful in all that they do with math.
