Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Building confidence in students is a very important. They will have the tool of awareness for life. Our unique curriculum allows students to create documentary films from start to finish. Our curriculum enables students to study documentaries, make them, and meet people in this industry.
Our school is a Title I school with approximately 75% minority.
The community is traditional with many residence living here for many generations. Like most secondary schools, we have an unacceptably high dropout rate, and many students score poorly on the state tests for Language Arts. We have found that Docs Rocks works well to motivate students into working hard to achieve a goal, including finishing high school and going onto college.
My Project
My students need digital cameras to film their documentaries. We are currently using cameras that are five years old, and they are tired and obsolete. New cameras will help a lot with bringing our program into the 21st Century technology. We want to replace old cameras that no longer have clarity of color and clear picture. They are old. ALL of our equipment and programs are outdated and need to be replaced. With new cameras, my students will be able to work on documentary without having to worry about sound quality and color balance. Their projects will be easier to accomplish, thus giving them a greater feeling of success.
Nothing is more exciting to me than to see my students fully involved in a project.
They learn that living is an art! With your help, I can continue this work for years to come on providing our community with lifelong learners.
