Have you ever felt the rush of information provided from the Internet? Have you viewed the millions of free educational resource apps, podcasts, and information brought from the App store or in iTunes U? Endless opportunities abound when these tools are placed in the hands of a child.
I teach 5th grade reading in a Title I school (which means over 50% of the students are on free and reduced lunch).
The students I work with have a wide range of abilities from Special Needs to Gifted students. All students, however, learn more when they are highly motivated and engaged. In the past I have worked with students with technology. We have taken students to Georgia Capital Tech in 2010 to present to state legislators ways of integrating technologies in the classroom. However technology is a field that is always changing and evolving. Our school already has many computers that are condemned and not supported by district technology. By receiving this technology, not only will you help keep our school on the cutting edge of technology, but providing many opportunities for students to create and explore.
Providing students with needed technology is critical to education like never before. Many of the jobs students in today's classes have not been created yet. Technology is growing at exponential rates, and students today are growing up in a society that does not know what it is like to live without the Internet. Computers are essential to increasing student engagement and student learning. Apple has always provided the cutting edge of educational technology, and with tools such as the iPod touch and Mac Books, the doors for student creativity can be kicked down. With these tools students will be able to create websites and podcasts with the iLife Suite. Students can document reading fluency, book trailers, readers theater, and videos through the use of iPod touches. There are many educational apps provided for free as well as hundreds of free educational videos on iTunes U. With these tools, my students engagement and interest will explode!
Technology was what helped my educational experience in school click.
The fondest memories I have of school were the engaging experiences provided by floppy disk games such as Math Blasters and Carmen Sandeigo. Now the experience is ten fold, and even more critical. Help my students receive the same experience by donating to this project.
