This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I want my students to learn that snack time is a chance to refuel our bodies in order to actively move through the rest of our day. A prepackaged honey bun is hardly going to give them that push they need. No wonder they go home and crash in front of the TV!

I have a group of eight students with various special needs including Downs Syndrome, autism, and students with developmental delays.

While they attend their zoned elementary school, their needs are significant enough to require a self-contained special education classroom.

My Project

I am requesting a blender to add to our kitchen, a refrigerator in which to store healthy perishable foods, and a box of granola bars for those times when the refrigerator is empty! I want to teach my students that healthy foods are the better option. They will enjoy the opportunity to explore and experiment with different fruits and flavors to create new smoothies. I know their taste palates will expand with exposure to fresh, whole foods. Luckily, FEED USA shares this desire and is graciously matching donations that inspire our children to choose healthier eating options.

All of my students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch at school based on their families' incomes.

We eat a snack at the end of the day before the children go home and for some of them, these school meals are the only ones they receive, so each one counts.
