Mrs. R. from MO is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an HP Mini Netbook.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I currently teach science at an small, inner-city high school in Missouri. The small class size allows for flexibility and the opportunity to do activities that would not be possible with more students. Unfortunately, we are unable to take advantage of this because we do not have enough resources.
I am lucky to teach highly motivated students who dream about attending college.
Not only do my students love hands-on experiments, group projects, and presentations but they learn best with these types of assignments. I would love to incorporate more of these activities but they take a great deal of resources. Our school's small budget does not have enough funds to purchase technology like computers.
In order to create more meaningful assignments and projects, I am trying to build a mini-computer lab for my science classroom. During lab experiments, students can use the HP Mini Netbook to record observations, prepare graphs and write lab reports. This will allow students to have hands-on experience using technology in a laboratory setting. In the classroom, students will use the HP Mini Netbook during student presentations and projects. By combining project-based learning with technology, my students will gain experience working in a group and create an end-product to be presented to their peers. By using this method of teaching and learning in high school, my students will be better prepared for college where group projects and presentations are common. This technology from HP will also be used during class to access the Internet. Streaming videos, research materials, and study guides will be readily available if we have another computer in the classroom.
The HP Mini Netbook and its myriad of uses will help my students have the same opportunities and resources as their suburban peers.
Due to the high cost of this technology, it cannot be purchased without your donation. Computers will increase scientific knowledge, motivation and achievement in all of my students. I can't wait to see the excitement on the faces of my students when they learn we have a new netbook for use in class!
