This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Have you ever been sitting somewhere and you were cramped and needed a bit more space of your own? The carpet plays an important role in our classroom and the one we have is no longer big enough for the children. The little bodies that sat there in September no longer fit in the same spaces.

I have 20 energetic and excited students that love school!

They are very eager to learn and do their best! They attend ST Academy which is an inner city school. STA provides a free, all day kindergarten which helps prepare students more thoroughly for the expectations of first grade. Our student population of 346 is 24% Hispanic, 75% African American with less than 2% Caucasian and Native American students. Twenty-three percent do not speak English as their primary language. Over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch benefits.

My Project

This carpet will be one of the most important organizational tools in my classroom. It will be used far more often than the chairs and tables. It will help the children stay focused and provide a comfortable area for them while participating in large group activities. The squares on the carpet will take away the uncertainty of where to sit and ensure that all children have a space that is their own. It will also provide a place for our morning meetings, calendar, math, language, SMART board activities, read alouds, puzzles and a large space for using manipulatives.

By donating to this project, you will be giving my children a chance to learn in a more comfortable and relaxed way.

They will have their own defined space. This carpet will be utilized for many years to come and I believe the students will remember it vividly as they recall their kindergarten year.
