This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Curious George is a little monkey with an insatiable curiosity. Like George, children are natural explorers and scientists, and they're anxious to know how things work. The Curious George series takes full advantage of this natural curiosity.

I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California.

We are considered a Title I school as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We also have a very high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

My Project

Series books are often the easiest way to get early readers to open a work of fiction. Curious George is a classic series that until recently, I hadn't noticed was missing from my library shelves! The books feature a curious brown monkey named George, who is brought from his home in Africa by "The Man with The Yellow Hat" to live with him in a big city. This is a series that has the potential to appear too young, but in requesting these books, I have specifically chosen those that are at the highest reading level for my fourth graders. Each book corresponds to our school's reading program and the levels are spread out so that everyone in the class will be able to choose a book from the series, including one super high nonfiction that tells the story of the authors: H.A. Rey and Margret Rey. Satisfy the curiosity!
