This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss
I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California.
We are considered a Title I school as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We also have a very high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students.
My Project
Dr. Seuss is a literary icon, loved by children and adults. My students have asked for his books and I am doing my best to make their request a reality. Dr. Seuss stories will allow me to build my students' enthusiasm for reading while enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. These books allow even the most struggling reader to find success. They invite children to read the text again and again by building both sight word recognition and the love of a creative story.
Each of the books I have chosen are compatible with our school's reading program and are also at a more complex level than some of Dr. Seuss's other works. In other words, they are appropriate for upper elementary readers as opposed to primary students.
My students need the inspiration that Dr. Seuss's words can bring.
I want them to see the possibilities that their lives hold. Oh, the Places You'll Go! Dr. Seuss has inspired many children and I want his words to do the same in my classroom. Thank you so much for your donation. My students and I greatly appreciate the opportunity you bring!
